5.26.12. luncheon & reception.

some of the important details:

my dad, my mom, dawson's mom, and dawson's dad all spoke at our luncheon. i said a few words of thanks to everyone there, and my husband finished with some words of love that had more people than just myself in tears.

for dawson's wedding gift i gave him a big, nice Book of Mormon that would be our family's for all our life.

and he got me the exact same thing. i suppose we're meant to be.

at the reception one of my best friends and bridesmaids caught my bouquet.

 love this picture.

my cousin snatched the garter. dawson cheated and used his hands to get it, i guess he didn't know he was supposed to use his teeth haha.

we had a daddy-daughter and mother-son dance before dawson i had our dance together. after that we were sent off with bubbles!

six months of marriage & a little attitude of gratitude.

after thanksgiving and an amazing weekend with my husband, i'm feeling extremely grateful.
for one, today is our SIX MONTH ANNIVERSARY.
i cannot believe we've been married for six months! it seems like our wedding was just yesterday.
we are truly getting to know each other every day and i am constantly falling more and more in love with him.

just look at this handsome fellow i get to hang out with forever!

and because listing things i'm grateful for makes me happy, here is a list of everything else i'm grateful for:

* my family & dawson's family - there's no better support system than this. also, no other two groups of people we laugh as hard with or have as much fun with.
* my job...it is very challenging. and it is making me a better person. and i realize i am blessed to be employed.
* the opportunity to get an education. and in a field i'm passionate about, for that matter. as hard and as frustrating as school can be, i love learning and progressing. it's something i've missed the past few months and am excited to get back to.
* our friends - we have both been blessed to have lifelong friends, and now we're able to share them with each other!
* our house that has become a home. i was so thrilled to call it home when we first moved in. but as time passes, as things break and get fixed, as we add new members to our home (two dogs and someday some more people), as we spend our precious time here together working and learning and relaxing and playing, as we get to know each other deeper and deeper, this place feels even more like home than it did the day before.
* our dogs, they've destroyed some things, they've taught me how to care and take responsibility for something outside myself, they've made us laugh our guts out, they've made us have to clean up much more than we would usually. they're two of the most loyal friends, and they've brought so much joy and love into our home.
* every "first" we've had this year, individually and as a couple. all the new things i've tried at and failed at or succeeded at, everything i've learned from my husband. all the responsibilities we've had to take on as being adult, and all the other new experiences we've had this year.

diy christmas wreath.

okay we're getting a little crafty over here. i saw this wreath on pinterest, so when madison, becca, and i had craft night while the boys played halo, i decided we had to make it.
the tutorial we used is here.
all you need is a straw wreath with the plastic covering.
yarn.
and whatever embellishments or decorations you want to embellish it with.

oh, and a glue gun.
you pretty much just wrap & glue the yarn around the wreath. i ended up doing two layers of yarn so that it would be completely covered.
and then glue your decorations on. i was able to clip mine on so i could actually take them off and redecorate the wreath later if i decide i want to.

if you're truly crafty, you can make your own felt or cloth flowers or decorations for it. i wasn't feeling that ambitious, but i am still pleased with my finished product.

my next project i'm currently working on is a tree skirt. i'm having fun doing it and we'll see how that one turns out!

5.26.12. food & flowers.

i wanted orange.
i wanted gerbera daisies.
i wanted roses...and i found the perfect orange spray roses
i needed pink to tie in the pink in the bridesmaids' dresses.
blue ribbon.
the rest was whatever tied in with that.
a florist the lakes know well made my bouquet and the boutonnieres.
my amazing cousin made my bridesmaids' bouquets and the other arrangements we used for decoration.

we ordered the gerbera daisies for the bridesmaids from sam's club. the flowers i had chosen were light pink, light orange, and white and i thought the three of those colors would be PERFECT. well, they came to our house two days before the wedding and were all pink and white! it definitely wasn't the end of the world but my main color was orange! not pink! i really had wanted there to be orange in the bouquets. there wasn't much sam's club could do in a short matter of time so i figured, oh well. since they needed to be stored in a cool place i took them to the empty garage at mine and dawson's house in buckets.

i completely freaked my mom, mother-in-law, and cousin out when i called them the next day to inform them that ALL of the flowers were dying. i was kind of bummed thinking i wasn't going to have any flowers for my bridesmaids when my mother-in-law called me after stopping by the house to pick something up and seeing the flowers, informing me that they were NOT dying, gerber daisies naturally bend at the stem, that's what makes them so great for floral arrangements...who knew?

so everything turned out fine, we also found some smaller orange daisies and orange roses to include with them!

at the luncheon we had an amazing chicken dish and an assortment of cakes for dessert. at the reception we had an assortment of cheesecake. they sent a box of cheesecake with us on our honeymoon and yes, i ate the whole thing.

my same amazing cousin who did the flowers also made our wedding cake with her husband. she couldn't get many details of how i wanted the cake out of me. all i really cared was that it was a funfetti cake with birds on top. and she did an amazing job.
she baked the absolutely delicious creamy funfetti cake that i'm absolutely craving right now (can't wait til our first anniversary) and her husband decorated it.
they seriously need to go into the wedding cake business.
oh yes, and i don't know what kind of punch there was at our reception, but it was some good stuff. maybe that's just because i was incredibly thirsty standing in line when someone brought that to me.
thank you, whoever that was.

and of course, after the reception, dawson and i had chick-fil-a on our way out of town.
and THAT was our perfect wedding meal.

5.26.12. the people.

getting married was an eye opener to how many people really care about dawson and i. it was amazing to feel the support of so many people on our big day. everyone involved in our wedding and who came to the reception (and those who couldn't be there but still showed their support) have each played an important role in our lives and helped us both to be who we are today.

we have pretty cool friends.
candid shots of wedding guests are the best.
